How to build a Personal Brand in 2025

It’s no surprise that having a personal brand is what’s IN right now. But let’s be real—it’s always been that way. People buy from people – we connect with brands that we love because of the human side they show us. But now more than ever, people are more likely to buy from brands that have a personal, sort of like a direct relationship with them in the sense that they can relate and resonate with.

Here’s something you might not realize: you are already a brand. Whether you’ve intentionally branded yourself or not, people already associate you with certain things. Your personality, your expertise, your vibe. And in today’s digital world, your brand isn’t built on fancy credentials. It’s built on your promise to your audience and the message you want them to hear. And it is all based on “Authenticity”.

But what EXACTLY does it mean to be authentic?

All this time (5 years to be exact) of running my online business, I thought I was being fully authentic. It took me all these years, the experiences I’ve had with people, moving to another corner of the world, motherhood and lots of coaching from mentors to truly uncover and actualize my authentic self in the world. It was super uncomforable yet freeing realising what means to be authentic is to just be YOU the whole time. But YOU have to do the work to learn about you.

If you’re an entrepreneur, aka you run a business, but you also want to build a personal brand. Or maybe, your business is your personal brand (aka it’s built on you, your name, your identity), here are some lessons I’ve learned along the way:

1. Ask yourself (and the people around you) who you are.

Get really clear on this. Who you really are, how are you different, who you best work with, what do you enjoy the most. I remember the early stages of my rebrand,I asked my husband a lot of questions about how he saw me. Was he biased? Absolutely. So, I asked my siblings too – they have zero problem keeping it real. They can be very raw and I wanted THAT. We as business owners tend to look around for niches to fill in when in fact, we forget that you are the niche. Start with yourself and uncover everything already inside you.

Tell your story

Many of the brands that I’ve worked with in designing and building their brand identity , were shaped from their story. You can read their stories here. And for good reason – stories are powerful. Your story is so powerful and it’s the thing that has either push us toward big moves. Or inspire us to pivot when life isn’t working. And I can promise you that your story will resonate with someone and that impact will make sharing this story all worthwhile.

For me, I’m injecting the human behind the brand by sharing my personal experiences—the highs, the struggles, and everything in between. These are the stories that drive us to be authentic versions of ourselves. And THAT is what your personal brand should be based on. But I won’t sugarcoat it: being vulnerable takes courage. But take your time. It’s your story to tell, at your pace.

Have your own opinions

I’m not shying away from my opinions and potentially polarising content, as long as it is something I fully stand for and believe in. The key is to be thoughtful about what you believe in and brave enough to share it.

Not everyone will agree with you. And that’s fine. The people who do? They’re the ones who will trust you, engage with you, and stick around.

So, stop trying to appeal to everyone. Speak your truth. The right people will listen.

Show up consistently

Your content, your website copy, what you wear, how you market, the colours you pick for your brand needs to match your personality and once you define these, then stay consistent with them. Infuse your messaging with your personality, your energy, and your unique voice. And remember: consistency builds trust.

Build a community – even if it’s just 10 members

Forget about follower counts. I mean that metric doesn’t really matter anymore anyway. A real community isn’t about numbers—it’s about connection. Gather like-minded people around your values and mission. And don’t just talk to them—talk with them. Interactions are the best ways to form relationships. Relationships lead to trust. And trust? That’s what leads to purchases, brand loyalty, and long-term success. You can do this in so many ways:

  • Start a newsletter.
  • Create a private podcast.
  • Open up a community space—whether that’s on Instagram like community channels, Discord, or WhatsApp.

The key is to Make it a two-way conversation. People don’t just want to follow you. They want to connect with you.

The process of building a personal brand is not smooth

I spent months feeling like I wasn’t “enough” to succeed online. I doubted myself, second-guessed my brand, and wondered if I’d ever get it right.

But here’s what I’ve learned: it takes time. It takes patience, consistency, and a whole lot of courage.

If you focus on these elements – clarity, storytelling, opinions, consistency, and community – your personal brand will come together in a way that feels so aligned. And once that happens? You’ll start attracting the right people, the right opportunities, and the success you deserve.

So, start today. Show up as you. And trust that the people who need to hear your message will find you.
